What this book is

RAZEM po polsku ("Polish together") is a coursebook series developed at the Jagiellonian University's institute for teaching Polish as a foreign language and published by Avalon in Kraków. The A2 set (2021) contains a 272-page student's book with a CD, a 126-page workbook and free MP3 audio. It is described as the first Polish coursebook built on the action-oriented (task-based) approach: each unit works towards a "main task" from real life — choosing a sports class, furnishing a flat, writing a guide to healthy living. A B1 volume continues the series.

Who it suits best

  • Learners at A2 in a course or with a tutor.
  • People who learn best by doing realistic tasks rather than drills.
  • Learners who want to check their level at the end of A2 — the book ends with a test written to the standard of the state exams.

Who should pick something else

  • Beginners studying alone: instructions are in Polish only.
  • Learners who want lots of grammar drills — pair it with a grammar workbook.
  • Candidates who need B1 exam rehearsal — this is the step before it.

What's inside

  • Units that list their vocabulary, grammar and skills, then build towards a real-life main task.
  • Regular sections on texts and contexts and on culture ("between cultures"), with self-assessment tables and fun facts at the end of each unit.
  • At the back: answer key, transcripts, an A2 grammar summary and an A2 proficiency test matching the requirements of the state certificate exams.
  • Workbook, CD and free MP3s.

What learners and teachers say

Independent opinions are very thin. The Poltax bookshop calls it "one of the most modern language coursebooks created recently", and its three customer reviews give 5, 4 and 5 out of 5 — but two of them repeat the shop's own description word for word, so we do not treat them as independent. Empik shows a single 5-star rating without text, and Goodreads has no ratings (checked October 2026). The only academic paper on the series analyses the B1 volume, praising its many intercultural elements.

Our verdict

A modern, well-equipped A2 course — a good bridge between the basics and B1 preparation, especially in a class. After it, move to a B1 course and test yourself with our free B1 practice tests.

These reviews are independent. We are not paid by any publisher or bookshop, and we do not sell these books. Descriptions are based on the publishers' information, the books' contents and publicly available reviews by learners and teachers.
