What this book is
Polski krok po kroku ("Polish step by step") is a two-volume coursebook series from the Glossa school in Kraków, sold through polish-courses.com and its platform e-polish.eu. The story follows five students on a Polish course in Kraków, and lessons are built around everyday situations: shopping, asking for directions, going to the doctor.
- Volume 1 — A0–A2. A new edition appeared in 2026: 208 pages, about 250 minutes of audio, with modern vocabulary (parcel lockers, BLIK payments) and a three-year licence for the online e-coursebook. The ISBN above is for this edition.
- Volume 2 — A2–B1: revises volume 1 systematically, then works on all skills.
Who it suits best
- Beginners who want a contemporary course with lots of speaking from the first lesson.
- Learners who like studying on a screen: the e-coursebook offers click-to-translate words, a dictionary and flashcards.
- Students in a course or with a tutor.
Who should pick something else
- Learners who want English explanations in the printed book: the print edition is in Polish only — translations, the answer key and the dictionary live on the online platform.
- Candidates who need exam practice: the series ends at A2–B1 and does not train exam task formats. Add a B1 exam book afterwards.
What's inside
- Lessons with dialogues and recordings, vocabulary, grammar explained in context and clear grammar tables.
- Speaking and writing tasks in every lesson.
- A separate workbook, plus the online e-coursebook with translations, dictionary, flashcards and answers.
- Volume 2 practises listening, reading, writing, speaking, grammar and pronunciation.
What learners and teachers say
This is one of the most-reviewed Polish coursebooks. On Amazon the first volume has 4.6 out of 5 from about 365 ratings and the second 4.6 from 39; on the Polish price-comparison site Ceneo the A1 book has 4.66 from 92 ratings and the A2 book 4.87 from 56 (checked October 2026). Many reviewers bought it because their teacher or course chose it, and a Ceneo buyer calls it "one of the most popular coursebooks among Ukrainians".
- Praised: the modern, clear layout and colour pictures; clear grammar tables; plenty of natural, native-speed audio; and above all the online platform, which checks answers and translates words on a click.
- Criticised: the book is Polish only, so it is hard to start alone without a teacher or the platform — the most frequent complaint, from nine separate sources. One Amazon reviewer writes: "Yes it is all in Polish but that is the point! I accept for the absolute beginner it would be almost impossible to get started." Several learners say it ramps up too quickly in the middle chapters, and a university study of the vocabulary of volume 1 (Mirocha, Jagiellonian University, 2020) found many words above A1. A few buyers received copies without the CD or the platform code, and the student's book has no answer key. Two sources, including a teacher on YouTube, find some dialogues naive or stereotyped.
Our verdict
A good, modern A1→B1 route, especially if you use the online platform rather than the paper book alone. When you reach B1, move on to a dedicated exam book and try our free B1 practice tests to see which module needs most work.
