What this book is
Gramatyka polska w ćwiczeniach dla obcokrajowców ("Polish grammar in exercises for foreigners") was published by Prolog in 2023 and belongs to its "Polski w ćwiczeniach" series. It covers grammar for levels A1–A2 in 312 pages. Every topic is laid out on two facing pages: the rule on the left, the exercises on the right. Explanations and instructions are in Polish, and there is an answer key.
Who it suits best
- Learners at A1–A2 studying in a Polish-language classroom or with a tutor.
- People who like a reference-style grammar organised by part of speech, with practice next to every rule.
- Teachers looking for clear, well-designed grammar pages.
Who should pick something else
- Learners who need explanations in English or another language.
- Learners already working towards B1: the book stops at A2 grammar. Gramatyka dla praktyka goes up to B1.
- Anyone who wants a lot of exercises per topic — there are usually only a few.
What's inside
- Nine chapters: grammatical gender, the noun, adjective, adverb, pronoun, numeral, verb, syntax and prepositions — each divided into smaller topics.
- Theory and exercises on facing pages, with cross-references, illustrations and photographs.
- Boxes on how frequent each structure is, and curiosities about Polish grammar.
- Repeated revision of earlier topics and an answer key.
What learners and teachers say
The only reviews we found are five on the Poltax bookshop, all written within five weeks of publication in 2023: four give 5 out of 5 and one gives 2 out of 5 (average 4.4). Reviewers praise the high editorial quality, "attractive graphics, tables", interesting and engaging exercises, and explanations "written in understandable language". The two-star review, by a self-described experienced teacher, criticises three things: grammar topics are not assigned to levels, there are few exercises — "usually 3 tasks" per topic — and the Polish grammar commentary uses too much linguistic terminology. We found nothing on Goodreads, forums or in academic journals.
Our verdict
A well-made optional reference for A1–A2 learners with a teacher. If your goal is the B1 exam, choose a grammar book that reaches B1 and test yourself on the grammar module of our free B1 practice tests.
